Warner Bros, I don’t know whether or not to hug you, or kick your ass!
For years, you’ve been my favorite studio/distributor, and some days your frustrate the shit out of me.

I’m in the middle of enjoying one of my favorite summers at the box office, especially with Warner Bros.’ smash hit. The Hangover.
For those of you who have not seen the Hangover, specifically you, Matt Scott (Who, by the way you can hear every Monday night along with Rob and myself on the Oh Team, 7-10 eastern, right here on TrainRek Radio) need to see this movie! Everyone needs to see this movie!
Warner Bros. did a great job distributing this movie, because the movie only cost about $35 Million Dollars to make, and to date has made nearly $300 Million in Domestic gross to date. And after 2 months, still remains in the top 10 at the Box Office.
Warner Bros., see? Sometimes you can do something right.
But why am I pissed??? Because you own the single greatest collection of superheroes ever, and you can’t make movies happen worth shit for said characters.
You see, Warner Bros owns a number of properties, personally most notably, DC comics, which includes characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and of course, my personal favorite: The Flash.
You’ve made a lot of my favorite movies over the years, and I love you, but get your ass in gear and start to develop these properties that you own, because quite frankly, it’s embarrassing how much Marvel is kicking your ass!
Just look at all of the properties that Marvel has had successful films with.
Spider-man. 3 Movies, a Gazillion Dollars, and one of the best directors or all time at the helm for yet another film? Attach Spidey to a film, and you have Boffo Box Office!
Iron Man. Without a doubt, the best movie of 2008. And yes, I went there, Marvel. I know the Dark Knight came out last year, but as good as Dark Knight was, Marvel did have the upper hand, because they just got it right. I know all of you Ledger-lovers will argue with me until I am blue in the face. Let me just say this. I own both films. I love both films, but I love Iron Man just a little better. Not much. But enough to say that I think that it’s the better film.
X-Men. 4 X-titles later, and Fox is still going strong. With a Possible second Wolverine movie, and a Deadpool and Magneto film in the works? Here’s another franchise that has the ability to print its’ own money.
Then look at the other string of Marvel films, both good and bad, but at least they got made, I mean go down the list….
Daredevil, Elektra, Ghost Rider, 3 Blade Movies, 2 Hulk Movies, 2 Punisher Movies, 2 Fantastic Four movies.
And then look at the Films in Development.
Iron Man 2.
Thor
The First Avenger: Captain America
The Avengers
And as I mentioned before, Spider-man 4, Deadpool and Wolverine 2.
And this is all since 1998. 11 Years.
What has DC comics done property wise in the last 11 years?
First off, Nothing was done from a DC property between 1998 and 2004. Most likely because of that Nipple-injected Joel Schumacher abortion: Batman and Robin.
(Do Schwarzenegger) ICE TO SEE YOU!
There was Catwoman in 2004. The only thing good about that movie was Halle Berry’s visible cleavage, other than that, it was 104 minutes where I think even my sperm started to commit suicide.
Next was Batman Begins in 2005. Nothing bad to say about this movie. I loved it. It was the perfect origin story, and made up for that campy sack of crap Schumacher movie. Can you tell I just don’t like him?
In 2006, There was Superman Returns. I liked it the first time I saw it, only because I was dying to see a Superman movie, but upon further examination, I just don’t care for it. I love Bryan Singer. He’s amazing. Especially The Usual Suspects, and even his job on X-Men and X2 were awesome, but this one just didn’t do it for me. And probably because it was just a continuation of the Christopher Reeves movies, and not a proper reboot like they did with Batman the year before.
Two years later, We got The Dark Knight. A Masterpiece in its own right. That’s all I need to say about that. I know people complained about Christian Bale sounding like Clint Eastwood, but I say live and let live, or live and let die. Which was an awesome Bond film, but I digress.
This year, we had Watchmen. A Movie that I liked quite a bit. It’s a dreary depressing movie, and it didn’t do well, because people weren’t aware that it was a dreary, depressing story. I liked it, some people did, some people didn’t. But it was a brilliantly shot film, which captures the essence of the book brilliantly. a near-literal adaptation, which in movies to comics, rarely happens.
So as you can see, Marvel’s got DC beat at least in movies made, and of course, dollars made as well.
All that DC has officially down the pipeline, is Jonah Hex, which is probably going to perform modest at best, as only comic fans know who he is. Then of course, Green Lantern, which I REALLY want to see. And then a Superman and Batman movie are in development, and then a series of others which will probably sit in development hell, like everything else DC does.
I just wish that DC would get off their asses, and make more movies that people are going to rant and rave about for years to come. I can’t believe I have to wait at least 2 years for that to happen…. Well at least DC does put out animated movies to tide me over. Superman/Batman Public enemies…. You are so going to kick ass!
But that’s just my opinion, what do I know???
